Biography

Mr. Mark Hodgson was appointed Vice-President for Administration and Business, effective 15 September 2014.

Prior to joining HKUST, Mr. Hodgson was Chief Financial Officer at Aston University, UK, a position he held since 1 July 2012.

Before joining Aston University, Mr. Hodgson held a variety of senior finance positions in the private sector. These included Vice President Finance & IT for the Global Microbiology Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc from 2004 to 2012, based in the UK and a number of senior roles in Unilever during a 16-year period with this company. These included Program Director Financial Shared Services Europe; Finance & IT Director, Unilever Poland; Vice President Finance, Crosfield Chemicals USA and Corporate roles in the Global Head Office. In his early career Mr. Hodgson held positions with Deloitte and Shell.

Mr. Hodgson has a 1st class honours Degree in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics from the University of Warwick, UK and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Areas of Responsibility

The Vice-President for Administration and Business (VP-AB) maintains a strategic overview of the administrative resources of the University and functions responsible for the planning and management of manpower, financial, physical and other resources of the University to ensure delivery of services in support of the academic and research activities of the University.
